Butterfly Room

Children ages 3-5 are growing rapidly, both physically and intellectually. The Butterfly Classroom (Preschool) seeks to offer children cross this broad age range with opportunities to learn with their peers and teachers. Preschool is a busy, happy place. We believe children learn best though play, and our classroom reflects that with plenty of natural and high quality materials to engage children.

Preschool curriculum focuses on the classroom and their current interests as a starting point, and scaffolding their learning in new and interesting ways. We encourage independence to build competence and confidence, helping our preschoolers get ready for that big transition to kindergarten!

Puffer Childcare and Preschool partners with the state funded Universal Preschool Program. Children who are 3 years old by September 1 are eligible to participate. The program offers preschoolers 10 hours of preschool services a week for a minimum of 35 weeks. The Universal Preschool Program at Puffer runs from 7:30am – 12:00pm. Many children involved in the program also participate in our full-time or part-time child care program. Each year we are able to offer several of these 10-hour preschool spaces to eligible families.

Classroom Philosophy

Children must feel safe and secure in their environment. The should feel invited to grow and develop their skills at their own pace. Children learn best by exploring various interests during period of uninterrupted play. Positive relationships with peers and teachers are essential to their learning process.

Non-Discrimination Policy:

We recognize that families are the first and most important teachers of the child and respect and uphold the family’s rights, opinions, and culture. This is a safe space where nondiscrimination, teamwork, family values, and communication are held in high regard. We believe in the importance of family and community involvement to ensure that we are creating a caring and constructive environment that will support the health and well-being of all who are involved in our program. We value open communication with families to ensure that families are receiving support and encouragement; partnering with them to provide a strong and positive environment for their child to live and grow.

Inclusion

PCCC is adaptable to families and children with special needs. All children will have access to opportunities to participate in all activities that are appropriate to their age and development. We are happy to modify curriculum, experiences, routine, and emergency procedures to support all children and their developmental levels. Please communicate with us if your child has special needs, what routines/modifications you have at home, and anything that would benefit our staff so we can maintain high-quality, respectful, supportive, and inclusive care for your child.
